Images from Botany Bay Plantation in Edisto, South Carolina where a forest has been overtaken by rising sea levels. Over the decade that we have been visiting this location only a few of the tree skeletons that had been left standing in the surf have remained. Most are now toppled and strewn further up the beach at the line of the forest. Action of the surf at high tides, sun and wind have eroded and bleached the tree roots and branches making for unusual shapes, patterns and textures in what remains. I love the evocative mystery that can be captured in the intimate framing of the driftwood. The images open my imagination to a wealth of dreams and stories related to the passage of time, creatures and relationships.
